SKIN-ROLLER
Skin-roller treatment — ideal for addressing acne scarring and age-related collagen loss — works by harnessing the body’s natural healing response to stimulate new collagen production. In a controlled manner, the fine needles of the skin-roller create microscopic injury to the skin, which activates the repair process and triggers collagen formation through a process known as neo-collagenesis. By around week six, early type-3 collagen is gradually replaced with stronger, longer-lasting type-1 collagen. With repeated treatments, visible improvement can be seen in fine lines, pigmentation and the depth of acne scars. At the same time, neo-angiogenesis occurs, where new capillaries form as the needles stimulate the cells lining blood vessels, improving circulation and skin nutrition.
Skin-roller treatment can increase the absorption of medical-grade skincare products — such as anti-ageing serums, hair-loss treatments and mesotherapy solutions — by up to 800%, significantly enhancing their effectiveness.
Following treatment, the skin may appear flushed for less than 24 hours, meaning downtime is minimal for this highly effective rejuvenation procedure. As the skin is more sensitive to sunlight afterwards, high-factor SPF protection is essential for at least one month post-treatment. The use of specially formulated hydrating creams during this period can further enhance results. A gentle exfoliation phase usually follows as the skin renews itself.
After one week, skin texture and tone begin to improve; between weeks two and three, pigmentation becomes more even. By week six, skin tightening helps soften lines, refine enlarged pores and improve the appearance of scars.
Skin-roller treatments may be performed on the scalp (for hair thinning or loss), as well as the face, neck, chest and body.
A typical course consists of 3–5 sessions, spaced approximately one month apart. Visible signs of regeneration may take up to six weeks to appear, with continued improvement over subsequent months, resulting in gradual and long-lasting enhancement.
The latest advancement in this field is an electronic device known as the microneedling pen, which uses multiple fine needles to vertically penetrate the skin. Owing to the rapid speed of penetration, discomfort is significantly reduced. An additional benefit is the adjustable needle depth, allowing treatment to be tailored to different skin thicknesses using a single needle cartridge.
The microneedling pen has demonstrated excellent results in improving scar tissue beyond acne scarring, including keloid scars and stretch marks.
As a precaution, vitamin A–based skincare products should be discontinued a few days prior to microneedling and avoided until any post-treatment redness has fully settled.
